A very fine Georgian silver salver made from a very good gauge of silver, featuring a cast and applied beaded outer border with an inner repousse decoration of husk and a final inner border of beaded repousse work. The salver stands on three cast feet with beaded edge and scroll end. The centre of the salver has a contemporary armorial displaying a shield with a Griffin and a Lion surrounded by swagged drapes. the Griffin is azure, these would be the arms of Hargest, of whom no details are given in the standard works… looking for the impaled arms of his wife, a lion rampant being possibly the most common coat of arms in Britain, and this seems to have no useable tinctures, so absolute identification would be impossible.
