A Highly Important Peter Archambo (I) – George II Swing Handle Basket

This fine basket is presented in oval form with flared pierced sides, cast scallop and scroll decorated rim and tapering foot, with rounded rectangular swing handle centred with a vacant cartouche and with a band of matching decoration, engraved with crested coat of arms to the centre withinfoliate scroll border. It is possible that these are the arms of Roche, there were two English branches, seated at Welcomb, co Devon, and Walkneth, co Lincs, where the ground was azure, as in these arms. Scratched 51:12 to base, 31.5 x 26 cm, approximate weight 51.2 ozt
